We have talked about Kanban, coaching, strategizing for Scrum Masters and so forth. ![]() We have also done multiple Brown Bag sessions with the Scrum Masters, again on varying topics. A Brown Bag session is an informal meeting that typically takes place around lunch time, in which a team member teaches his colleagues about a certain topic. A session typically takes no more than one hour. An important note is that the intention isn't that somebody spends days or weeks preparing for this session - keep it light. It has turned out to be a really nice way for people to talk about topics they are interested in or passionate about. If another team member is familiar with that topic, he or she might take the initiative to facilitate the session. Furthermore, team members can also request Brown Bag sessions on certain topics they're interested in. The idea was simple: a brown bag session* is an informal meeting that typically takes place around lunch time, in which a team member teaches his colleagues about a certain topic. Originally, one of the team members from the development team came with the idea of hosting 'Brown Bag sessions', a practice he had picked up at a former employer. This short article goes into these sessions and the way we have been approaching them. Fundamentally, we wanted to structurally spend time together to learn from each other. Therefore we have been experimenting for a while adapting two idea's: 'Brown Bag sessions' and the 'Agile Dojo'. However, it's often difficult to find time to do so between all the other activities that are going on. One of the big advantages of working at a company that has multiple Scrum Masters is that you can learn a lot from each other.
